This story is very funny due to the face that it contains perverted jokes and elements. I don't know how they managed to keep everything at a G level. I highly recommend this series. This series is best watched in the original Japanese with English subtitles, it is very interesting to hear the voice actors stretch their voices to the limit on this one. Another thing to look for is the soundtrack, the music used in this series is worth a listen, even if you don't understand Japanese.
Hideyuki Makimura - As the series starts, Hideyuki is Ryo's partner in the business. A former police officer, he left the force after certain situations rendered him helpless to assist innocent civilians (like those who would call XYZ for their services). He is soon killed by a drug cartel for refusing to commit to their nefarious plans.
Kaori Makimura - According to Kaori, she is Hideyuki's younger sister. According to Hideyuki, Kaori was adopted as an infant, the child of a murderer killed by police. After Hideyuki's death, she takes over his duties as Ryo's partner. Unlike Hideyuki, however, if Ryo tries to get too close to his beautiful female clients, Kaori will protect them by smashing Ryo's head in with a 100 ton mallet. Kaori herself is also attracted by Ryo's charms and character, but because of Ryo's lecherousness, she keeps her feelings to herself. Kaori's main peeve is being seen as a man by not only women, but Ryo himself. It seems that Kaori's true goal with Ryo is to be seen as attractive while invoking jealousy and perhaps even love in him. Hayato Ijuin AKA Umibozu AKA Falcon - Like Ryo, he was a mercenary in South America and also works as a sweeper in Shinjuku. This gigantic man is known for his awesome strength, and his ability to take a licking and keep on ticking. Whereas Ryo tends to solve a problem through cunning and guile, Umibozu tends to solve a problem using a blunt force approach: with a bazooka in one hand, and a machine gun in the other. Umibozu's greatest weakness is cats, including cute kittens, he loses all his strength at the sound of a cat's meow. Strangely enough, cats are very attracted to him, and his life partner Miki owns a shop called the "Cat's Eye". To some of his former enemies and comrades (including Miki), he is known as "Falcon".
Saeko Nogami - A detective with the Tokyo Police department, Saeko is Hideyuki's former partner in the force, and is a good acquaintance of Ryo. She is also a great manipulator of men. Whenever she is in a tight spot with a case, she calls Ryo to assist her in completing her mission with the promise that she will sleep with him. Of course, she is always able to duck out of it in the end, so Ryo keeps a record of how many times Saeko "owes" him.
Reika Nogami - Saeko's younger sister, Reika, like Ryo, works in the private sector and is also a former police officer. Like her older sister, she is also a great manipulator of men. Therefore, all her clients are typically male. If she needs Ryo to help her in a tight spot, she does not ask him outright, but rather use him as fodder for her protection. Unlike her sister though, Reika is TOTALLY attracted to Ryo and strives to be his partner in life and crime one day, much to the jealousy of Kaori.
Miki - Umibozu's Partner. As a young man in his mercenary years, Umibozu found Miki as an 8 year old orphan. He then took her under his wing and taught her all the skills she would need to survive. However, several years later, Miki began showing affection towards Umibozu, so he ran away from her. Miki spent the next few years looking for Umibozu and when she finally did, she would become his life partner. Miki is the only girl in the series who does not display any attraction to Ryo Saeba whatsoever.
Kasumi Aso - Also known as Phantom 305, she enlisted Ryo's help in getting a black rose back from a corrupt psychic. Later in the series, she enlists his help in breaking an arranged marriage to someone she detested. But in doing so, the head of the clan discovered that her heart had been "stolen" by Ryo. Kasumi was then forbidden to return home until she "stole" Ryo's heart. Kasumi thus works as a waitress at the Cat's Eye and becomes a recurring member of the cast.
In 2005, the long awaited sequel to City Hunter, "Angel Heart" premiered on Japanese Television. "Angel Heart" portrays a darker side of City Hunter, one that includes the loss of one of City Hunter's most revered characters......
